Practicing at Home

4 tips for practicing at home

Many of our dancers LOVE practicing their recital dance at home!  So what can you do to encourage your child and help them practice?  Here are four of our best tips:

  1. If you haven’t already received an email with a link to your child’s recital music, that will be coming to you later this month!  Ask your child to practice what they remember best.
  2. Resist the urge to “teach” the dance steps yourself; allow your child’s dance teacher to champion those skills in the classroom.  Instead, have your child teach you!  This helps build confidence.
  3. Know that practice won’t make perfect – but it will make progress!  Even listening to the music by itself is very helpful, as young dancers become more familiar with the beat and rhythms.
  4. During Sneak Peek Week, take a video of your child’s class while they practice their recital dance.  Afterward, they can practice at home alongside the video.

Practicing dance at home should feel comfortable and supportive, and dancers should feel proud of each step they can do independently.

If you ever have any questions about what is safe or appropriate to practice at home, please don’t hesitate to ask us!  We’re happy to help.
